JC Whitepaper: How changes in the law effect snow removal
On July 26th, the Supreme Judicial Court changed a more than century old ruling of how slip and fall lawsuits are handled (see Boston Globe article). We asked our company attorney to briefly explain the effects of this change in law. We also wanted his opinion on how we as service providers and our customers as property owners and managers may be affected. We are posting this memo for all to see. Our response is to look at the positive side. We will continue to evolve our record keeping on how and when we serviced our properties. We will continue to stress good communication and follow through between our property managers, our staff, and our vendors. We want to be as prepared as possible so in the uneventful situation that one of our clients and/or partners is effected by a claim we will have all of the tools necessary to help defend them. We will make sure that between continuing our staffs education, annual investments in new innovative technologies and products our service will always be of the highest quality. We will make sure our clients and partners will be proven to have kept their properties at a more than reasonably safe level.

New Law Makes Prompt Snow Removal Even Smarter
07/26/2010 Boston Business Journal - SJC upends 100 years of slip-and-slide law
The Massachusetts Supreme Court recently overturned a 100 year old law that protected property owners from slip and fall lawsuits when the accident was caused by a "natural accumulation of snow and ice." I have asked a prominent Suffolk law professor and practicing attorney for a nonbiased view of how this change in law will affect our customers and our company. I hope to release his views next week as a whitepaper on our website.

SIMA 2010, Providence, RI
JC's GM and founder, Jonathan Crandall, together with Chris Wilson, Specialty Crew Chief and David Knodel, Turf Specialist, attended the 2010 SIMA Symposium also known as "the greatest show in snow." We met with many vendors and colleagues, including our friends from Natural Landscape and KAGE Innovations, and learned about the latest products and technology, including safer sidewalk ice melting practices.
We took advantage of numerous educational opportunities from respected industry professionals on topics ranging from weather science, human resources, customer service and good operational practices. Each year brings new and innovative products and technologies to the industry. We are excited about how these innovations will help us better serve our customers.
